Options are given in consultation document that include severe restrictions on Sea Angling (including banning Angling altogether over large areas). The focus of the document is in the area from Rame Head to Point A to Portwrinkle. However areas outside of this are mapped e.g. Plymouth Sound and Cawsand Bay is given the title of  'candidate Special Area of Conservation'. The implications of this are not known.

Be aware, however, that the 'consultation document' contains many errors e.g. it states there are only two shore marks in the affected zone when in fact the whole of the surf beaches (a 5 mile stretch) represent some of the best bass fishing in the Country.

Overall the document presents a muddled view and it does not distinguish clearly between Sea Angling and commercial fishing. All the Government emerging policy quoted by CCC relates wholly to commercial fishing. The Minister for State Ben Bradshaw has recently confirmed that this Government fully supports Sea Angling.

Ultimately we believe the aim is to further extend the area beyond current proposal include the area to Looe Island and also into Plymouth Sound and the Tamar system.

Sea Anglers need to establish:

  1. The impact on  Shore Sea Angling in the Rame Head to Portwrinkle area.

  2. Clarity on any current or proposed plans that impact Shore Sea Angling in the Rame Head to Plymouth Sound/ Tamar Estuary.

  3. The severe impact on Boat Sea Angling in the Rame Head to Portwrinkle area.

  4. Clarity on any current or proposed plans that impact Boat Sea Angling in the Rame Head to Plymouth Sound/ Tamar Estuary.

  5. What is the CCC policy regarding commercial fishing in the area outlined above and how does it tie in with the emerging Government policy on Sea Angling?

  6. What is the NFSA involvement in all of this?
