This (NTZ)
is a non-starter from the beginning. Nothing was suggested before
this over-hyped piece of junk (the Scylla) was dumped on the sea
bed. This is nothing but a commercial venture that couldn’t care
less about how anglers feel. It would ruin the future of angling.

Report (DEFRA)
Sea Angling
contributes £500m to the UK economy compared to the much smaller
figure from the commercial inshore fishing sector.
Call for Sea
Anglers and Environmentalists to have a far bigger voice when the
forthcoming inshore management shake up is completed. It is
important that fisheries management should give due weight to
anglers, in terms of management of fisheries and the ecosystem
generally, and in promotion of facilities for anglers.
Improved
facilities for sea anglers - such as the formation of artificial
reefs - are high on the report's wish lists.
Report mentions
"there is a common law right to fish in tidal waters"
Chris Venmore
Chairman of Devon Sea Fisheries Committee
"I believe that all British people have a right to be able to go
fishing in the seas around our shores. Perhaps how they fish and
what they catch may be something that needs to be controlled, but
their right to fish must not be challenged"
Danny
Williamson
N.F.A. Senior Coach, S.West & S.Wales

"Even
more surprising is the lack of consultation and research, especially
with anglers and the Governing Bodies.
As I originally understood, at the sinking of the HMS Scylla, the
wreck would be for the benefit of everyone, of which included
Angling.
I am particularly disappointed with the Council
due to the fact that we have been working hard in this very area
this year, promoting angling, especially when the majority of
forward thinking Councils would seem to
support angling and recognise the benefits, not just for young
people, but for the whole local community and local economy".
